One of my most favorite times of year is when we reap the harvest of our labor. We till and plant and water and weed in the hot months. And then, after what seems like so much time, we get to eat and enjoy. Starting with the green beans, I bring my daughter to experience the fun collection of our booty. With each bean, her face lights up as if she’s found yet another treasure.
The herbs begin to flower. Soon we’ll have seeds to plant next year. The aroma on our fingertips is something I marinate in all day.
Fresh zucchini to make more bread to share with others and to snack on through the week. mmmmm
Ruby Red Swiss Chard. The color speaks for itself. Wow.
The summer squash tastes amazing on the grill or sautéed up in a pan.
Some little carrots are just perfect for my Rilynn; she loves the baby ones.
I love carrots! They give such a fun surprise as they are pulled out of the ground. We never know what they will look like, what they have been doing underground for these last few months, what prompts them to shoot a different direction or wrap another way. These are always my favorite kind. Carrots in love! Aren’t they precious? Some may roll their eyes, but I’m fascinated by these carrots, so out of my control. They reinforce the love God has put in my own heart. I love LOVE.
They all get cleaned off and trimmed down. I marvel at the color for a while before I plop ’em in the pot.
In to the pot it goes in the morning. Set to simmer all day long. Our home smells like… home. Warm, soothing, cozy. I love the honor of creating this feeling in my home for my family. My mom has shown me what it looks like. And now, I get to take a turn to play house for the ones I love.
